“What Starts Here…” chord is an interactive musical and visual installation, designed and executed by the University of Texas at Austin Integrated Media (UTiM) concentration in the Department of Theatre and Dance to showcase the interactive capabilities of new and exciting media technology.
PREMISE: chord is an invitation to play and explore the line between color and sound. Using interactive technology, visitors control the lights, media, and music through the plucking of strings to change the immersive environment.
GOAL: To educate, enlighten, and entertain diverse audience with music, light, & projection
MUSIC and SOUND DESIGN: MIDI, Soundscape (surround vs omnidirectional), 8 different preset tones/chords
TECHNOLOGY: Interaction based software Isadora, iphone oscillator app, 6 iPhones
MUSIC THERAPY BENEFITS and OUTREACH: Installation provides opportunities for facilitated: Social interaction, Emotional expression, Cognitive + Communication development, Motor skills development, basic music skills
